Community Grants 2025

ripple

The Community Grants program continues to attract applications from local community groups, not-for-profits and charity organisations. Applicants can request funding of up to $30,000 to support the development of new programs or initiatives, continuation of successful initiatives and equipment or capital purchases.

We focus on projects that demonstrate innovation, encourage environmental sustainability and develop community engagement, run by organisations that support at-risk and disadvantaged populations.

In 2025, we were pleased to support eight organisations from across Canberra and the surrounding south eastern NSW region.

Australian Agricultural Centre
The Australian Agricultural Centre is a place to learn more about farming and agriculture, with the aim of promoting a sustainable way of life and the economic, social and environmental future for the Australian agriculture industry. ActewAGL is proudly supporting the 2026 International Women’s Day event, which will focus on changing habits and fostering sustainable personal and community transformation for women in agricultural communities.
Broulee Surfers Surf Life Saving Club (SLSC)
Broulee Surfers SLSC delivers the largest surf lifesaving program for children and youth in the ACT. Training occurs on Lake Burley Griffin, Canberra Pool, South Broulee Beach and at surf sports carnivals across the NSW Far South Coast. Fostering a family-friendly environment, the club is committed to providing activities for people of all backgrounds. ActewAGL is proud to support the purchase of a purpose-built trailer that will transport and store rescue boards used in water safety training and surf lifesaving education in the ACT.
Canberra Alliance for Harm Minimisation (CAHMA)
CAHMA provides services and programs to support the health and human rights of people struggling with drug use and help accessing drug treatment services. ActewAGL is proud to support The Bright Start Essential Home Support Project, which will deliver tailored household essentials packages to individuals and families exiting crisis accommodation, homelessness and domestic and family violence across the ACT region.
Inherited Cancers Australia
Inherited Cancers Australia (ICA) is the only Australian organisation dedicated to supporting the 1 in 400 Australians who carry gene mutations related to cancer and cancer risk. The organisation empowers individuals to understand and manage their risk through trusted education, personalised support and advocacy. ActewAGL is proudly supporting the 2025 ICA Canberra Information and Support Day to provide people with a high risk of cancer with evidence-based information about how they can manage their cancer risk.
Nowra Community Food Store
The Nowra Community Food Store (NCFS) is a low-cost grocery store for low-income earners in the Shoalhaven region that provides choice, dignity and affordable (as well as free) grocery options for customers. ActewAGL is pleased to support the ‘Grow a row’ initiative, which aims to engage the local community in growing their own produce and encourage them to donate a row of their produce to the NCFS.
Sonder Youth
The mission of Sonder Youth is to improve youth mental health through positive action. ActewAGL is pleased to support Sonder to deliver the Shoalhaven Changemaker program, which aims to empower young people in the region to make positive change in their lives, and in the wider Shoalhaven community.
Southern Women's Group Incorporated
Since 1984, the Southern Women’s Group has focused on empowering women on the South Coast to live free from violence and discrimination, through the provision of quality services, support and advocacy. ActewAGL is pleased to support their South Coast Domestic and Family Violence Prevention strategy, which will deliver community-based programs to address key drivers of domestic and family violence, with a focus on education, cultural change and empowerment.
Treehouse Queanbeyan Inc.
