Golden girls get the tickets
Planning on heading to any of Canberra’s top events? It’s likely you’ll see sisters Judith and Susan who won golden ticket access to Canberra’s VIP events.
In late 2017 we ran the ‘ActewAGL Golden Ticket’ competition, giving the opportunity for the winner to attend 12 of Canberra’s most popular events.
We asked the local community to nominate who they would take and why. The winning entry was from Susan who nominated her sister Judith for her ongoing and extensive volunteer work. Since 2010 Judith has devoted her time volunteering at various events, including:
- Floriade each year since 2011
- The Multicultural Festival
- Vision Australia
- Enlighten each year
- Canberra’s 100th birthday celebrations
- Parkrun – Ginninderra
- A member of Achilles Canberra
- Greening Australia.
We sat down with the sisters to take a look through their busy calendar for 2018 and chat about what they are most looking forward to.
How does it feel to have a packed 2018 calendar?
S: Life is about having something to look forward to, and the best aspect of this prize is that for the next year whenever life gets a bit ‘humdrum’ I only have to think of my next adventure coming up to feel cheered up.
What events are you most excited about?
J: We are both really looking forward to the Glassworks experience, it’s an amazing opportunity to make something beautiful and we are excited to watch the glass artist in action.
How does it feel to give this opportunity to your sister?
S: We are really proud as a family to attend events and to see Judith there directing people and helping a lost child find their parents. For several years now I have tried to think of how I can reward Judith for her generosity. When I saw details of the Golden Ticket competition I thought it would be a perfect prize for her – she could experience some of the events she volunteers at as a VIP guest.
