For the second year in a row, ActewAGL have run a social media competition inviting Canberrans to tell us who lights up their life, and why.

Nominated by her granddaughter, Sarah, local grandmother Val Whitford had the privilege of officially launching the 2019 Enlighten Festival, alongside ActewAGL’s General Manager Ayesha Razzaq.

The entry read, "A dry argument is not a good argument, there's always room for wine in your glass and sparkle shoes are for any occasion."

ActewAGL is proudly powering the Enlighten Festival for the third year. Enlighten is an opportunity to showcase Canberra’s unique cultural attractions, buzzing inner-city precincts and stunning natural environment.

“We received lots of great competition entries,” said ActewAGL’s General Manager Ayesha Razzaq “and it was an honour to launch Enlighten with Val, whose personality is as vibrant as the festival illuminations.”

As well as launching Enlighten as the major sponsor, ActewAGL is powering two interactive artworks.

  • Metamorphosis: giant, glowing, musical cocoons that transform before your eyes (March 1-10, Electric Gardens opposite Questacon)
  • Light Chimes: an installation where you can create melodies and light shows in beautiful synchronicity (March 1-10, East Lawns, Parliamentary Triangle)

The Enlighten Festival takes place from March 1-17. The illuminations will be on display from March 1-11. For more details, go to enlightencanberra.com.
