ActewAGL puts the sizzle into Aussie Day

Wednesday 31 January 2018

For almost two decades the Canberra community has celebrated Australia Day with ActewAGL, and this year was no exception, with thousands enjoying the ActewAGL Great Aussie Day Breakfast.

“This is the 19th ActewAGL Great Aussie Day Breakfast and over the years we’ve worked out the best way to burn the snags on the barbie just the right amount,” said Paul Walshe, ActewAGL Director, Brand and Communications.

“This year we cooked 350kg of sausages, 85kg of onions, put sausages on 250 loaves of bread, handed out 2,000 bottles of water and 3,500 bottles of milk, plus 360kg of bananas.

“Each year all money raised from the sausage sizzle is donated to a local charity and I am proud to say this year we raised $4,500 for Menslink which supports the mental health and wellbeing of local young men,” said Paul.

“ActewAGL is a long-time supporter of Menslink and to be chosen as this year’s charity was amazing. The need for our services has increased by 30 per cent since 2016, so we are thankful for all support we can get,” said Menslink CEO, Martin Fisk.

“It costs about $1,500 to support a young man who is struggling, so the money raised from the Breakfast is really going to change the lives of a handful of local young men,” said Martin.

“It was wonderful to spend yet another year with the Canberra community, to see the kids dancing with Dora and getting their faces painted, parents enjoying ‘Sing Australia’s’ performance and the volunteers from Menslink donating their time to cook.

“We’ll always support the events you love so I would like to thank everyone who attended and donated a gold coin, and I would also like to acknowledge ACT Government and Canberra Milk, who support this event,” concluded Paul.
