Double treat for sick kids with show bags and league superstars

Friday 17 February 2017

There were smiles of joy on the faces of children in the Centenary Hospital for Women & Children yesterday.

The children were delighted to receive a visit from six Canberra Raiders players who handed out the latest range of show bags for the upcoming ActewAGL Royal Canberra Show, starting next Friday.

Raiders’ stars Sia Soliola, Clay Priest, Topi Taufa, Joey Leilua, Scott Sorensen, Makehesi Makatoa mingled with the kids and their families, and made their way through the ward to visit those who were unable to get out of bed.

“It’s great to be able to spread a bit of joy, spread a bit of love – it’s just part of what we do at the Raiders. We’re very fortunate to be doing what we do as rugby league players, so we want to give something back to those less fortunate across the community,” said Sia.

ActewAGL’s Director of Marketing and Corporate Affairs Paul Walshe said ActewAGL was thrilled to facilitate the very special playtime session at the hospital with the support of the Canberra Raiders, the Canberra Hospital Foundation, the Royal National Capital Agricultural Society and ACT Health.

“It was wonderful seeing the Raiders boys interacting with the children and watching the kids’ faces light up with smiles and excitement. “

Debra Ryan from the Centenary Hospital for Women & Children said the children and their families were very appreciative.

“Hospital can be a scary place and it’s really special to have the Raiders come for the children and their families. The Raiders are just superstars as far as the children are concerned so a visit from them really brighten their day and just makes their hospital stay a bit easier.”

The ActewAGL Royal Canberra Show runs from Friday 24 to Sunday 26 February at EPIC.
