Ferraq®
Ferraq® provides specialist engineering
and scientific consulting services in phosphorus reduction and supplies bulk
ferrous chloride solution in eastern Australia. Both small and large sewage
treatment facilities can use Ferraq's services.
The Ferraq® process uses a by-product from the steel industry to treat domestic and industrial effluent, in order to reduce the level of phosphorus in our waterways.
Phosphorus, particularly in effluent discharged from sewage treatment plants, is a major contributing factor to blue-green algae blooms in the inland waterways of Australia. The high levels of phosphorus are discharged resulting in long-term damage to the environment and must be reduced.
Ferraq®
provides an economical and environmentally sustainable way to reduce phosphorus
in sewage treatment effluent. Ferraq®
uses ferrous chloride (iron salt) to remove phosphorus by precipitation. It
also controls odour in sewerage systems by combining with sulfides to form an
insoluble precipitate.
Ferrous chloride (also known as spent pickle liquor) is a by-product of the steel sheeting industry. It is produced when hydrochloric acid is used to clean steel sheeting before protective coatings are applied.
