NSW life support rebate — electricity
If the life support equipment you depend on is electrically operated, you can be entitled to a rebate on your electricity account.
The electricity rebate is calculated on a daily basis and will appear on your bill as a separate line item.
Please note: you need not be listed as the current account holder to be eligible. The rebate will apply to the account belonging to the sole or principle place of residence of the person using the life support equipment.
Eligibility
To be eligible for the rebate:
- the life support equipment must be prescribed by a medical practitioner for the treatment of a life-threatening condition
- the life support rebate may be received for each machine in use, as long as the application is supported by a valid medical certificate
- the property relating to the account has to be the sole or principle place of residence of the applicant
- the applicant has to provide ActewAGL with a current letter of authority signed by the applicant's medical practitioner or an authorised officer of the NSW Department of Health, specifying the type of equipment and the amount of time in use.
The following electrically operated life support equipment entitles the applicant to an electricity charge rebate:
- dialysis machines
- oxygen concentrator
- respirator

- CPAP regulator
- phototherapy equipment
- kangaroo pump.

To apply, simply print this form, fill it in, sign it and attach the appropriate authorisation to:

To complete this form you will need:
- a current letter of authority signed by your medical practitioner specifying the type of equipment and the amount of time use
- your ActewAGL account details for electricity and/or water and sewerage.
Please note
You will need to fill out a new application if you change your address. Applications must be submitted as soon as possible prior to the issue of the first account on which the rebate is claimed. Retrospective adjustments may be made.
Goods and services tax
GST applies to the balance of your electricity account after the rebate has been deducted.
