About direct debit

What is direct debit?

Direct debit is the easy way to pay your ActewAGL accounts from your savings/cheque account or from your credit card account. Depending on the payment option you choose, you may be able to select the amount you want to pay, and the frequency of your payments.

Why should I use direct debit?

Direct debit will save you time and possibly money.

If you use direct debit from a savings/cheque account for your electricity and water/sewerage accounts, you will receive a discount of $20.08 (GST inclusive) per service per annum. That's a total saving of $40.16 for both services per annum. The discount is calculated daily and is deducted from your electricity and water/sewerage accounts.

Please note:

  • the discount does not apply if you pay by credit card
  • the discount does not apply for ActewAGL Bundle services contracts in the ACT and NSW.

How safe is my information?

All information you give ActewAGL about your savings/cheque or credit card accounts will be kept in the strictest confidence between your bank, building society or credit union and ActewAGL. ActewAGL will not pass your information on to anyone else.

The information you provide while completing your form online is secure. ActewAGL uses Verisign Digital Certificate Services (128-bit encryption) to ensure your details are encrypted and stored securely. Please view our Security Statement for more information.

How do I signup for direct debit?

All you have to do is read the Direct Debit Request (DDR) Service Agreement, complete, print and sign the direct debit application and post it to ActewAGL, GPO Box 366, Canberra City, ACT, 2601.

When ActewAGL receives your completed form it will be processed and you will receive confirmation in writing of the direct debit details.

Please continue to pay your ActewAGL account(s) by the payment date until you receive confirmation from ActewAGL that your direct debit is operational. You will continue to receive your ActewAGL account(s) as normal and your direct debit information will be included on the account.

What if anything changes?

If you would like to change your direct debit account you will need to complete another direct debit application.

For all other changes, such as deferring a payment, cancelling your direct debit or changing a payment date, simply submit this form to ActewAGL or call 13 14 93.

If you are moving, contact ActewAGL on 13 14 93 or go to the moving house section on the website, to arrange your final meter reading and transfer your direct debit details to your new address.
