We’re undertaking many innovative programs to help the environment. Here are some of them:
ActewAGL has teamed up with Fieldforce to bring you the Enviro Saver Program, a free energy audit which helps you save money and the environment by making small changes around your home to become more energy efficient.
The Eco-living Exhibition featured three state-of-the-art energy- and water-efficient display homes at Majura Rise Estate, North Watson. The exhibition closed in December 2006, but you can still read about the homes and their innovative features.
Green energy sources like wind farms help Australia meet its greenhouse gas reduction targets and offset the use of non-renewable fuels such as coal and oil. ActewAGL is a joint venture partner in the construction of the Woodlawn wind farm near Tarrago in New South Wales. It will consist of 25 wind turbines and feature a viewing platform and educational displays for passing visitors. The wind farm will be capable of producing sufficient green electricity for 22,000 homes, replacing over 124,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions each year.
Australia is a country that mostly enjoys abundant sunlight year round. By using solar or photovoltaic (PV) cells we can capture this sunlight and turn it into solar energy without emitting any harmful substances into the environment. These systems are ideal for homeowners as they have no moving parts, noise or pollution and minimal maintenance or cleaning is required.
If your system is connected to the grid, this then allows you to have the freedom to use your energy as you please. ActewAGL's electricity tariff arrangements gives you credit for the solar energy that your system generates, and this amount is subtracted from your total consumption. You only pay for the electricity you have not produced but taken from the grid.

Xeriscape is a term meaning dry landscape. The principles of xeriscape gardening can be used to save water in new or established gardens. ActewAGL, together with the Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) and the Department of Urban Services, has established its own Xeriscape garden that is open to visitors.
Jointly owned by ACTEW Distribution Limited and Jemena Networks (ACT) Pty Ltd, Ecowise Environmental is Australia’s largest single provider of integrated environmental analytical, monitoring and consulting services. It has specific expertise in water and wastewater analysis to support management decisions.
