Solar Buyback Scheme

ActewAGL domestic customers with grid-connected solar energy generation systems may export unused electricity to the ACT electricity grid and be paid by ActewAGL for the energy.

How the scheme works

In the event that the customer is a net exporter of energy over a billing period, ActewAGL will purchase the net energy exported at a rate of 7.4¢ per kilowatt hour. The customer will continue to pay the supply charge.

In billing periods when the customer is not a net exporter of energy, the customer will pay the published tariffs for the net amount of energy imported for their use from the electricity grid.

This scheme is only available to domestic customers of ActewAGL with less than 10 kilowatts installed solar generation capacity.

ActewAGL will own any renewable energy credits associated with energy exported to the grid.

For safety reasons there are some technical standards that must be met. These are set by ActewAGL Electricity Networks and Bepcon and can be reviewed in the Service Installation Rules.
