ActewAGL is proud to announce that during Earth Hour 2010 Canberra's electricity use was 283,356 kWhs, which is 16,689 kWhs less than what ActewAGL predicted the usual
electricity usage between 8.30 and 9.30pm on Saturday 27 March would have been in the absence of Earth Hour.
ActewAGL's green energy program, Greenchoice, offers homes and businesses around Australia a direct and local solution to our environmental problems.
ActewAGL is supporting Better Place, a leading electric vehicle service provider, to deploy its infrastructure throughout the ACT.
Better Place have announced that their initial deployment in Australia will be in the ACT and they are aiming to have electric car recharge points set-up in homes, workplaces and shopping centres by 2012. ActewAGL will work closely with Better Place to supply and distribute electricity from renewable sources.

Australia is a country that enjoys abundant sunlight. By using solar or photovoltaic (PV) cells we can capture this sunlight and turn it into solar energy without emitting any harmful substances into the environment. We have submitted an expression of interest to build, own and operate a solar farm within the ACT, capable of providing power to 10,000 homes.
PV systems are also ideal for homeowners as they have no moving parts, noise or pollution. If your system is connected to the grid, this then allows you to have the freedom to use your energy as you please. ActewAGL's electricity tariff arrangements give you credit for the solar energy that your system generates.

Through our Community Sponsorship program we support events which promote sustainability like Earth Hour, Walk Against Warming, Gungahlin Sustainable Living Fair and the Queanbeyan Enviro Expo.

Xeriscape is a term meaning dry landscape. The principles of xeriscape gardening can be used to save water in new or established gardens. ActewAGL, together with the Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) and the Department of Urban Services, has established its own Xeriscape garden that is open to visitors.
