Full retail contestability in the ACT
Full retail contestability is another name for deregulation, which is also called full retail competition or simply FRC. The ACT electricity market, was deregulated on 1 July 2003 with the introduction of a competitive electricity market and the natural gas market was deregulated on 1 January 2002. This means that all ACT electricity and natural gas customers can choose the energy retailer that best meets their needs.
With FRC you have three choices.
- Do nothing and stay with ActewAGL. We will continue to provide electricity and/or natural gas to you under the existing standard contracts.
- Enter into a new energy supply contract with ActewAGL.
- Choose another energy retailer.
If another electricity company encourages you to switch, remember that ActewAGL has always been Canberra's reliable source of life's essentials offering competitive energy prices.
Call us on 13 14 93 before you decide to change retailers. Be sure you fully understand the terms and conditions of any offer, including:
- the length of contract
- cancellation and termination fees
- hidden fees and charges
- Consumer Price Index (CPI) price increases.
