Water meters
Your water meter measures the amount of water used in your home. The water meter is in a small box outside your home, normally in your front or back yard, connected to the water pipes to your home from the street.
When you use water, it passes through the meter and a turbine (wheel) in the meter turns numbers on a register, recording how much water you have used.
What does your water meter look like?
There are two kinds of meter used in the ACT.
Older metres in the ACT look like this and are usually painted green. This type of water meter is usually placed under a cast iron or concrete cover and is protected by a hard plastic box. |

Meters replaced since early 2000 look like this. |
