Here, there and everywhere… Be aware of water-saving opportunities

The best way to save water while washing the car is to wash it with a bucket of warm soapy water and a sponge over the front lawn.
Saving water doesn’t always come naturally, that’s why it’s important to look around your home and think of creative ways for water to be saved.
Try some of these for a start
- If you’re washing shoes, save the soapy water to scrub the toilet.
- Do you have fish as pets? Save the dirty water for your houseplants. The ‘gifts’ the fish leave behind are a good fertilizer with lots of nitrogen and phosphorous that plants love.
- Washing the family car with the hose can be a quick and easy way of doing things, but it sure uses a lot of water! The best way to save water while washing the family car is to wash it with a bucket of warm soapy water and a sponge.
- Better yet, wash the car while it’s parked on the front lawn. This way, the car gets washed and the plants get watered at the same time.
- Perhaps your parents can invest in a high-pressure water hose with a shut-off valve.
- Alternatively, there are always automatic car wash centres that recycle water.
