How do I print a web page?

It’s quite simple to print web pages. However, not all web pages are designed to look good when printed.

When you print a web page some of the images may not appear on the paper or the text may run off the edge of the page.

Before you print you should check how the web page will appear by selecting ‘Print preview’ from the File menu in your web browser.

If you’re not happy with how the page appears in the print preview, one option is to make the page wider by changing the page setup to ‘Landscape’ using the ‘Page setup’ item in the File menu.

Printing a web page

There are two easy ways to print a web page.

The first way prints the entire web page and is most useful if you have a single printer.

Click on the ‘Print’ button in the web browser toolbar. The page should print to your default printer.

If you have more than one printer and want to select which printer to use, use the method below.

From the web browser menu, select File and then Print. You will be able to select a printer (if you have more than one) and can adjust some other print settings.

Using this method lets you select how much of the web page you wish to print. For instance you can choose to set it to only print the first page, or a range of pages.

If you prefer to print a small section of a web page, select the text you want printed, click on the selection with the mouse’s right button and select ‘Print’.

Alternatively, select the text and then ‘Print’ from your web browser’s File menu. In the Print window, choose ‘Selection’ and click OK to print the selected text.

Printing pictures

Some websites are designed so that when you print their web pages the pictures do not print. This is often because most people printing web pages are more interested in the words. Pictures are slow to print and use a lot of ink.

If you want to print a picture from a web page, hold your mouse cursor over the picture until this toolbar appears.

Click the printer icon to print the picture.

You can also, in some cases, click on the picture with the right button of your mouse, and select ‘Print picture…’.

Printing from a web browser plug-in

Sometimes, you might want to print a file that has opened in a plug-in such as Adobe Acrobat. You usually have to use the plug-in’s menu to print and saving documents.

Here’s an example of a document that has opened in Adobe Acrobat, within a web page:

To print any or all pages of the document, click on the printer icon in the Adobe Acrobat toolbar rather than the Print button in the web browser toolbar.
