Blow wind, blow... the wonders of wind energy

Wind farms

The wind is the natural movement of air around the earth.

This movement can be caused by many different reasons, such as the shape of the land, the earth's spin and the heat of the sun.

One main reason is the sun. The sun heats the earth's surface and the air above it. The air becomes lighter compared to other air, as it gets warmer. This causes the warmer air to rise and cooler air to move in to take its place.

As the movement of air around the Earth is a continuous predictable cycle, we can identify "windy" locations and capture some of the wind energy as a renewable energy source.
