Coal

What is coal?

Coal is a fossil fuel formed from plant remains over very long periods of time.

When coal burns it releases a great deal of heat, making it a useful source of energy. This burning also releases carbon dioxide and water. The inorganic material in the coal doesn’t burn and forms the ash left behind after burning.
