We will give you a fair go

If you're thinking of applying for a job with us, you can rest assured that you will be treated be respect and given a fair chance.

That's because ActewAGL is an equal opportunity employer that applies the merit principle in all recruitment actions, and ensures a fair and open competition.

What is the merit principle?

The merit principal encourages the full range of applicants to compete openly and fairly for positions, so that the best person for the job is selected.

Therefore, selection is based on the relative abilities of the applicants to perform the duties of the job. This includes experience, knowledge, abilities, qualifications, personal qualities and the potential to develop them.

About fair and open competition

We ensure every job vacancy is a fair and open competition by providing the same selection criteria and information about the selection process to all applicants.

No discrimination

Our decisions to hire are made without discrimination on political affiliation, race, colour, ethnic origin, social origin, religion, sex, sexual preference, marital status, pregnancy, age or physical or mental disability, or any discrimination that is unlawful under the ACT Discrimination Act 1991.

This means we also understand that certain selection procedures may need to be modified in some cases to ensure that discrimination does not occur.

Please notify the contact officer if you require modifications to the selection arrangement.

Everyone is treated equal

We are committed to the values of equity and diversity as well as a harassment-free work environment.

For instance, women are a minority in some areas of our business, so we have developed a Women's Network where we hold social events to enable women in our workplace to find support in one another and gain useful information.

We also have a range of internal systems and a Code of conduct, designed to provide a decision-making model on what constitutes acceptable behaviour.

Operational health and safety – Life Guard

ActewAGL is committed to providing work systems that are safe, healthy and do not harm the environment.

This commitment is reflected in everything we do, including our:

  • induction program
  • employee training
  • ongoing refresher health and safety training
  • regular audit processes, planning and reporting.

Our Life Guard program is the framework of requirements, policies, standards, guidelines and management practices in which we carry out this commitment professionally.

The effort for such excellence has paid off - we won the Australian Human Resources Institute (ACT category) award for 'Excellence in people management for Human Resources’ contribution to a business goal' (with the goal being safety). Learn more about our achievements and awards.
