Water meters

ActewAGL is responsible for the water meter infrastructure up to, and including, the water meter. Only ActewAGL and our authorised agents are authorised to work on ACT water and sewer networks.

You are responsible for maintenance of pipes and other water infrastructure on the "house" side of the meter. If there is a leak or problem on the house side of the meter, ActewAGL has no reasonable means of determining the cause of excess consumption.

We recommend that you regularly monitor your water usage to check for any potential problems. Make sure you use a licensed plumber for any maintenance or renovation work.

Keep your meter accessible at all times

You are required to keep access to your meter clear at all times and free from damage. This includes leaves and other garden debris. Learn more about preventing damage to our utility networks.

Request for services

To organise the connection of a new meter to your property, the relocation of an existing one, or temporary disconnection of services, contact ActewAGL's Water Division on 6248 3555 or email us with your request at wscustomers@actewagl.com.au. Download Water and sewer main connection prices (PDF, 574KB) for current pricing.

An upgrade or replacement of a meter, which falls outside of ActewAGL's standard meter replacement program, can be arranged at the applicant's cost. Please refer to our Water and sewer main connection prices (PDF, 574KB). Just fill in a Quote request for hydraulic works form (PDF, 104KB) and return it to wscustomers@actewagl.com.au.

You can also download our brochure on Domestic water meter installations (PDF, 222KB) for some helpful advice on checking for leaks, saving water, protecting our meters, and further contact information.

You can also submit an online request for a special water meter reading for conveyancing purposes.

Reporting a fault

If you have a fault in your water meter, such as a leaking meter, report it to ActewAGL on 13 11 93 on our 24-hour emergencies and faults number. Please note that it is your responsibility to call a licensed plumber if there is a leaking pipe on your side of the meter.
