NSW life support rebate

If the life support equipment you depend on is electrically operated, the electricity account holder of your place of residence may be entitled to a rebate on the electricity account.

The electricity rebate is calculated on a daily basis and will appear on your bill as a separate line item.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the rebate:

  • the life support equipment must be prescribed by a medical practitioner for the treatment of a life-threatening condition
  • the Application for the NSW Government Life Support Electricity Rebate form must be completed and signed by a medical practitioner and the electricity account holder
  • the property relating to the account has to be the sole or principal place of residence of the applicant.

The following electrically operated life support equipment entitles the applicant to an electricity charge rebate:

  • home dialysis machines
  • oxygen concentrator
  • ventilators
  • total parenteral nutrition
  • Positive Airways Pressure (PAP) devices
  • phototherapy equipment
  • enteral feeding pump
  • external heart pump
  • Electric Mobility devices for Quadriplegics.

You may be entitled to a higher rebate if you use a Positive Airways Pressure (PAP) device or oxygen concentrator 24 hours a day. However, your medical practitioner will need to specify 24-hour use of the device on the application form.

Application

To apply, simply print the Life Support Electricity Rebate Application Form, and ensure it is completed and signed by your medical practitioner and the electricity account holder.

If you require an ongoing Life Support Rebate, please ask your Medical Practitioner to state this in a letter and we’ll record it for you.
