Protect yourself against fraud

ActewAGL and ACT Policing are reminding Canberra residents not to allow entry into their land by anyone claiming to be an ActewAGL employee or contractor without seeing their ActewAGL identity card.

In the past, ActewAGL has received reports of people claiming to be ActewAGL employees entering resident’s land and, in one case, charging money to perform phony jobs.

ActewAGL will never request face-to-face payment for a service at your property. ActewAGL staff or contractors seeking to conduct work inside a house will always present photo identification.

Under the Utilities Act ActewAGL staff and contractors seeking to perform network operations on your property must always carry a photo identification card and produce the card if you ask them for their identification. If someone claiming to be an ActewAGL employee or contractor cannot produce this card do not let them enter your property.

If a person is claiming to be an ActewAGL employee and cannot produce an identity card, or if they are behaving suspiciously, then residents are urged to call ACT Policing on 13 14 44 or ActewAGL on 13 10 93.
