Electricity meters

There are two types of electricity meters used in Canberra by ActewAGL: analogue and electronic meters.

Analogue meters use dials, similar to clock faces, to measure how much energy is used while electronic meters use a digital number display.

The electricity meter for each home is located in a meter box, normally positioned on an outside wall.

This meter box often also contains fuses and/or circuit breakers for managing the household electricity supply. This is often also the electricity distribution point, where all the circuits from inside the house are wired back to a common point.
