Information in this site
The ActewAGL education site has been organised to provide quick access to information on energy, water, sustainability and communications focused on Australian and, in particular, ACT (Australian Capital Territory) conditions.
Information within the site has been written at a level suitable for primary and secondary school students. Other sites linked to from the ActewAGL education site have not necessarily been written at these levels.
Topic areas
The four topics covered in this website are Water, Energy, Sustainability and Communications.
Water
This section covers the natural and urban water cycle, and how water and wastewater are treated in Canberra and Australia. It also outlines water saving tips.
Energy
This section details both non-renewable and renewable energy, and talks about the origins of various energy sources.
Sustainability
This section talks about maintaining the ecosystem so it lasts for future generations, while continuing to use energy and water for our homes and businesses to survive.
Communications
This section explains the inner workings and the history of telecommunication inventions such as the telephone, the television, the internet and the mobile phone.

Glossary
The glossary explains the meaning of many words in this website.

Finding your way around the education website
We’ve provided several different tools to help you find your way to the information you need.
Breadcrumbs
You’ll find a trail of breadcrumbs above the title on almost every page in this website. This trail tells you where you are in the education site and gives you a way to get to related web pages. They look like:

The site map lists all the web pages in this website. It is organised by topic and section to make it easier to find the page you want. Click on name of a page to open it in your web browser.
Left menu
Whenever you enter a topic area of the website (such as Energy), the left menu will list the topics in that section under the heading ‘Related links’ (e.g. renewable energy, non-renewable energy). It will then list links related to the section (e.g. sustainability) under the heading ‘See also’.
Clicking on any of those links will open the page in a new window.
Text links
Within every web page in the education site you’ll see text in bright blue. These are links, or hyperlinks, to other web pages.

symbol next to a link means that the link goes out of the education website to another site. These links open in a new web browser window so you won’t lose your place.
