Our staff volunteer program

ActewAGL Supporting our community logo with 'our' emphasised with underline and a drawn smiley faceActewAGL’s 2012 staff volunteer program will be held on the weekend of 26 and 27 May and incorporate over 20 ActewAGL employees as volunteers.

The project will assist the charity L’Arche, an international federation where people with an intellectual disability share life together. Each Australian L'Arche community is made up of a number of households and/or independent flats for people with disabilities.

The ACT L’Arche branch has three houses, two in Curtin and one in Chifley. The Chifley residence caters for five permament disabled members and two live-in assistants. The residences not only act as permament housing for those with an intellectual disabillity, but also as community gathering venue for all involved with the organisation.

As a part of this year’s staff volunteer program, ActewAGL will replace existing electric hot-water systems with solar hot-water units, clear and repair existing draining problems, replace damaged carport, redirect air conditioner drain, repair handrails on access ramp and improve existing gardens including the installation of a drip irrigation system and the adding of raised garden beds for the residents future use.

ActewAGL's first staff volunteer program project was the construction of an outdoor learning, barbecue and garden area for Galilee school.
