Work experience, traineeships and cadetships

ActewAGL knows that getting experience in your field of interest is important for your furture employment.  That's why we offer several ways to gain on-the-job exposure that can assist in acquiring the job you want.

We support local schools in our community by providing work experience opportunities for students in their final years of study.

Work experience usually involves five consecutive days work. During this time, students learn to operate as part of a work team as well as perform and observe a range of work-related activities.

Learn more about work experience by contacting your careers advisor or call a member of our Human Resources team on (02) 6248 3568 or emailing career.starter@actewagl.com.au.

Traineeships are a great way to get your career started with ActewAGL while learning new skills through on-the-job training.

We have trainees in areas such as, but not limited to:

  • office administration
  • human resources
  • information technology
  • electricity and water field services.

Trainees undertake study for two to four years in their respective field through an approved tertiary education provider such as CIT. Where applicable, they will also have time allocated during work hours to accommodate study. Once traineeships are completed, ActewAGL cannot guarantee ongoing employment.

We look for people who are highly motivated, have a willingness to learn and a desire to pursue a career in the area chosen for the traineeship.

This program allows students to undertake full-time studies at university and work with us during the three-month summer holiday period.

The benefits are obvious. Students can:

  • use this opportunity to apply what they are learning at university in the workplace
  • emerge from the program with relevant industry experience — and an edge over their peers
  • get a wage during their cadetship
  • possibly secure a full-time position with us after they graduate.
