Wastewater source management in Canberra
ACT’s sewerage system primarily serves to protect the health of the ACT’s population. ActewAGL manages ACT’s sewerage system under contract to ACTEW. As part of those responsibilities, we help ensure that the:
- structure of the sewerage system is protected
- sewerage system does not damage the environment
- health and safety of sewer workers are protected
- sewerage system does not threaten the safety of the general public
- sewage treatment processes are protected
- ability to recycle sewage and treatment by products are not compromised.
Most domestic wastewater is already approved for the sewerage system. In special cases, and for all non-domestic wastewater (also known as "Trade waste") you must get approval before wastewater enters the sewerage.
