Hume–Tuggeranong Interconnection (HTI)
ActewAGL enhances natural gas supplies for Hume and Tuggeranong
ActewAGL has commenced major capital works to enhance the capacity and reliability of natural gas supply to Hume and Tuggeranong to meet future commercial and residential growth in these areas.
The natural gas network in Canberra’s Tuggeranong district is approaching its designed winter capacity. To support growing demand and ensure continuity of supply over the next 20 years, it is forecast that approximately 27,000 cubic metres per hour of gas will be needed in the Tuggeranong area. To achieve this, a gas network interconnection is required between Hume and Monash and will be constructed in two stages:

Stage 1 of the project is now complete. Project Management and site supervision was performed by Jemena Asset Management. Construction was undertaken by civil engineering contractors Diona Pty Ltd.
Onsite activity included open trench excavations and welding of pipe. Trenchless technology including boring and directional drilling was also employed to avoid damaging the root systems of nearby trees.
Stage 2 of the project is expected to commence mid 2012.
Closely related to this project is the extension of primary gas mains from Narrabundah to Hume, together with the construction of a new Primary Regulating Station at Hume. Programmed for completion before winter 2013, these facilities will ultimately supply approximately 25,000 customers in the areas of Jerrabomberra, Queanbeyan, Fyshwick, Hume, and the future proposed developments at Googong and Tralee. In addition, these facilities will further reinforce supply of natural gas to Hume and Tuggeranong.
