Great Aussie Day Breakfast – Aussie spirit serves up biggest donation yet

Monday 30 January 2012

ActewAGL and the Fyshwick Fresh Food Markets would like to thank the community for their generous donations at the Great Aussie Day Breakfast, which raised over $6,000 for Camp Quality.

The Great Aussie Day Breakfast has been providing Canberrans with a free community barbecue for over a decade and this year approximately 4,000 people kick-started their Australia Day celebrations at the breakfast.

ActewAGL Director Marketing and Corporate Affairs Paul Walshe said, “This is the largest amount the event has ever raised and it shows true Aussie spirit to have so many people donating to this worthwhile charity.”

Camp Quality Fundraising Manager Heidi Bock said, “The funds raised will go towards our local recreation program which helps bring fun and optimism to the lives of children and their families living with cancer.

“This donation will see seven children and their companions put cancer on the back-seat while they enjoy a fun-filled camp with bellies full of laugher.

“We really appreciate this donation and thank ActewAGL, Fyshwick Fresh Food Markets and Canberra Milk for helping Camp Quality make laughter the best medicine for children and families living with cancer in ACT.”

The crowd at this year’s event consumed a huge brekkie with 4,500 sausages, 40 kilograms of onions, 250 loaves of bread, 4,000 pieces of fruit and refreshments.

Event goers also enjoyed live entertainment and meeting some of Canberra’s local sporting celebrities including Canberra Raiders’ David Shillington, Glen Buttriss and Josh McCrone and Brumbies’ Pat McCabe, Ben Alexander, Scott Sio and Jerry Yanuyanutawa. Throughout the morning Kiwi G and Fireman Sam provided entertainment for the whole family.
